Our Italian Circle of Life
The Soglimbene family transported the warmth and passion of provincial Italian traditions to Australia over fifty years ago. They shared their cooking, recipes and hospitality in their legendary Pappardelle Ristorantes. And became the ‘local Italian’ in Balmain and Rozelle for over twenty-five years.
Son Gino and daughter Danielle Soglimbene grew up surrounded by the rhythms of Italian restaurant life.
“We have been on an Italian culinary journey with out parents and grandparents without us even realising it!”
We have cooked with Mum, Dad, Nonno and Nonna.
“Our parents have taken us on several food ‘safaris’ back to the motherland. We have seen and tasted the olive oils, the groves and wines.
“We shared wonderful finds at the food markets down the back street of Florence and discovered the authentic balsamics of Modena.”
Fast track to the Pappardelle Ristorante in Haberfield, Sydney.
Gino and Danielle returned after years of travel and re-connected to joy of sharing their heritage by opening the next Pappardelle Ristorante.
Old family recipes and traditions combined with fresh new ones. Once again brought from the rich food culture that is Italy.
Delicious family favourites made in their own cucina and served in the restaurant suddenly became high demand! Fresh ingredients and made with love became their new ‘Pappardelle Pantry’ range.
As they lived and journeyed through Italy, Gino and Danielle had become aware of the small artisan producers who still picked their olives by hand, used original copper pasta forms and crushed wheat in ancient mills. Italy was preserving and treasuring the old ways by recognising authentic regions. New manufacturers were staying true to old ways and pure ingredients.
Once back in Sydney, they realised their friends and restaurant guests wanted to experience the same regional culture.
So they created the “Pappardelle Pantry” e- supermercato. Products they knew and loved from their experiences under the Mediterranean sun. Products they used in their own restaurant kitchens.
“All the things that make Italian food, simply Italian.”
